DC Metro Edition
Within this publication, CDI will provide insights about telecommunications IT talent demand within the DC metro. DC has over 38 large and mid-sized telecom hardware, peripheral and service providers that directly compete for talent – and – there are also many indirect competitors, not entirely in the telecom space that are also vying for comparable skills. Examples of indirect competitors include QuinetiQ (seeking data modelers and algorithm specialists), AOL (seeking Java, Android and security engineers) , Lockheed Martin (seeking video and networking engineers) and Boeing (seeking telecom-specific project managers) to name a few.
In telecom in the DC market, total new advertisements all IT skills has flattened a bit in the past 30 days after bouncing up considerably in January and February. The numbers below represent the total number of new, advertised jobs in IT per month by telecommunications companies in DC:
Despite the overall flattening of new IT job acceleration, the demand for applications developers has remained hot, increasing 11.0% in the past month. Specialized skills within applications development including Java, Stack/Python, Imagery Exploration and Hadoop/BI are the skills that are highest in demand. The demand for network and computer systems administrators, engineers and architects has softened a bit vs. last month which should make them easier to find.
